Operational scenarios
Start with the failure mode.
Define the interface.
Lost links. Different coordinate frames. Telemetry from separate software stacks. These are practical settings for evaluating AEA as a common state record within a larger aerospace or autonomous system.
Integration scenarios for technical evaluation; these descriptions are not deployment or flight qualification claims.
01 / Space launch & reusable platforms
Carry the frame through a handoff.
Separate subsystems can report valid positions in different frames or at different epochs. Without that context, a downstream consumer can misinterpret a state record.
- AEA contribution
- AEA carries the body, coordinate frame, time scale, and timestamp alongside position, velocity, and attitude. The receiving system has an explicit description of the state it is reading.
- Evaluation task
- Replay host telemetry through the record interface. Confirm field conventions, timestamp conversion, and downstream decoding against known inputs.

Context for the next subsystem
The host performs trajectory estimation and coordinate transformations. Record tagging alone does not remove estimation error or timing offset.
02 / Re-entry & interrupted communications
Retain a record through a lost link.
A vehicle may lose contact while its onboard systems continue running. Engineers need interpretable records of that interval when communications return or stored logs are recovered.
- AEA contribution
- The AEA interface can seal host-supplied states locally. Each recovered record includes its timing and frame context, with a digest that a separate analysis tool can recompute.
- Evaluation task
- Use a host-side logging test to interrupt transport, recover stored records, and check complete, corrupted, and missing-record cases.

Recovered log for analysis
Storage policy, loss detection, clock quality, and navigation through the interruption belong to the host architecture. AEA is the record format within that system.
03 / Deep-space telemetry & navigation research
Declare the origin. Preserve the epoch.
Comparing records across Earth-centered and barycentric workflows requires explicit coordinate and time conventions. A compact record is only useful if those conventions travel with it.
- AEA contribution
- AEA-STATE/1 includes GCRS and BCRS frame identifiers and TAI, TT, TCB, and TDB time-scale identifiers. A producing system declares the conventions of its supplied state.
- Evaluation task
- Connect a selected host ephemeris workflow and reproduce the resulting records with an independent consumer using the same declared conventions.

Explicit frame & epoch context
Ephemerides, relativistic transformations, clock conversion, and navigation sensors are external inputs. The record format does not replace ground tracking or supply autonomous navigation.
04 / Distributed platforms & constellations
Give exchanged states a shared structure.
Systems assembled from different software stacks may encode time, units, and frame assumptions differently. Integration becomes harder when those assumptions remain implicit.
- AEA contribution
- A common fixed-size schema makes those state fields explicit. Producers and consumers can share a known-answer record and test their encoders and verifiers against the same bytes.
- Evaluation task
- Check cross-platform record parity, invalid-field handling, transport overhead, and the treatment of stale or missing records in the host application.

Common decoding contract
The host supplies synchronization, trusted identities, network behavior, and collision avoidance. An unkeyed SHA-256 digest does not authenticate a peer.
05 / Timekeeping & metrology
Make the time convention inspectable.
A timestamp without its time scale leaves ambiguity in cross-system analysis. Civil-time conversion and clock offsets need explicit treatment before records are compared.
- AEA contribution
- Integer seconds, nanoseconds, and a declared time-scale field preserve the producer's timestamp convention inside each record.
- Evaluation task
- Compare host clock conversions against agreed reference cases, including the treatment of UTC conversion and historical offsets.

Declared timestamp convention
The interface records a supplied time. Clock synchronization, relativistic corrections, and measurement uncertainty are assessed in the surrounding system.
From scenario to evaluation
Agree on what the test must establish.
Start with the target processor and toolchain, source of state and time, message rate, transport and storage constraints, and acceptance criteria. These determine the integration work and the measurements needed to assess it.
